Movie Trailers: The Men Who Stare At Gaots

This is going to be a Tom Movie! Psychic Hilarity. This movie is going to be fun. Why? Because “We’re Jedi”.

Murder vs. Abortion

I will begin by making the statement that I am pro-life. I believe there is only one reason to abort a baby. That reason would be for a triage type situation. If circumstance makes it where either the mother or the baby is about to die, and there is nothing else that can be done about it. Then the doctor should make the choice as to who lives and who dies.

I don’t believe anyone should have the right to take someone else’s life. That goes for a fetus that is only days old. That goes for the enemy in a war. We should do everything in our power to keep from killing anyone. That is God’s job. In war, we as a nation use smart bombs to blow up one building (in some cases just one or two rooms in one building) among a city full of buildings. This is what we should do with abortion. If there is not a valid reason to kill a baby, then let’s not do it.

What are valid reasons to abort a baby? If the mother is going to die because of the baby growing inside her, then let’s think about abortion.

What are reasons I think are not good reasons to abort a baby?

  1. Because the mother is too young. If she is old enough to have sex, she’s old enough to carry that baby to term. It is called consequences. The schools preach the dangers of sex from a very young age. Kids know what can happen if you have sex. Yes a baby is going to change her life. A baby changes any mother’s life.
  2. Because she was raped. That sucks. That is a strong case of bad things happening to good people. It’s not the baby’s fault though. That baby could be the next Einstein or Van Gough. I guess it could be the next Hitler, too. In any case, our world needs that baby. I’m sorry she was raped. Don’t hold it against the life growing inside her.

There are lots of other reasons that women use. Most of them have to do with the woman’s choice about not going through a pregnancy. I still say, once she’s pregnant, it’s not her choice anymore. She needs to take that baby to term and deliver. She still has choices. She can raise that baby with the help of family, friends and even the government. She can give it up for adoption. Yes it is going to be hard while she is carrying the baby, but she should not have the right to take that baby’s life.

Recently, a doctor (George Tiller) who was known to do late term abortions was killed in his church in Wichita. There is a controversy or conspiracy theories that he was a target because he did late term abortions. I’m not going to go into the conspiracies. I want to go into the idea of committing violence against these doctors and their clinics. Pro-Life extremists have taken their beliefs to the extreme and committed heinous crimes against those who are Pro-Choice. Bombs have been detonated, destroying buildings and in some cases killing people.

I have to say, these actions are just as wrong as abortion. These doctors have the right to do abortions. The law is on their side. We do not have the right to stop them in violent ways. We should stage peaceful protests and take them to court when they do something illegal. We should fight to have the law changed to make it illegal to abort babies. If we are breaking the law by destroying their clinics and killing those involved, we are no better than those people who actually abort the babies. If we are Pro-Life, Why should we kill anybody?

My Review: Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (Major Spoilers)

I saw this movie late. I was able to borrow it from a family member. I heard all the reviews and went it in not expecting very much. Everyone I talked to who had seen the movie said that it lacked something to be desired. Now that I have seen it I will put it up there with the release of Star Wars episode one.

I was disappointed for about the first twenty minutes. When they threw Indiana onto the ground and he stood up not quite completely strait, I just had to laugh. The jokes I heard about Indiana Jones and the Geriatric Chronicles seemed right on the money. He just seemed too old for the part. He seemed to really struggle to make things happen. Every stunt he did seemed unrealistic.

I thought the atomic bomb was kind of pointless. Yes it was the infancy of the nuclear age and the imagery was awesome, but it seemed that the only reason they added the nuclear explosion was to draw attention; a kind of wow factor. There was no real reason for it. It didn’t really lead into the story. It didn’t even hold a key to what the story was about. It was just there; a reason to lock Indiana inside a refrigerator and send him tumbling down a hill away from the explosion.

The villainess was kind of wimpy. Her second in command was more like the kind of villain I like to see Indiana go up against. She seemed a little unsure about herself. Every time Indiana got close to her trying to steal the treasure back, she got this frightened look on her face. She just wasn’t the hard, Russian enemy I expected to see him go up against.

I liked the idea of the aliens. I know there were a lot of other people who didn’t like this idea. It was the nineteen-fifties though. People of that time were looking for UFOs. They were expecting to see aliens. This episode tried to explain area 51 and what we did with the crashed spaceship. It was also a small tribute to Stephen Spielburg, being a number of his movies had to do with aliens. There was a small tribute to George Lucas as well, when Indiana said the favorite one-liner, ”I have a bad feeling about this;” Stripped strait out of Star Wars.

Thought the killer monkeys and the quicksand were kind of pointless. Both of them had very little effect on the progress of the story. The monkeys attacked and then were never seen again. At least with the killer ants, the power of the crystal skull came to light. As for the quicksand, the only reason for it was to make sure they were captured again while giving the couple a little bit of time to talk.

Where’s the city of gold? They made all this hype about how they were going to find a city of Gold when they returned the skull to its rightful place. I saw a little gold on the pillars but there was defiantly a lack of gold throughout the city. If they had only showed a beautiful golden city, the last scene would be more powerful. Oh well.

I enjoyed the movie. It would be a great flick to rent or borrow from a friend, If you go in not expecting much, you will at least have a good time. I will give it 2.5 stars out of 5.
