Have I Told You? I Hate Going to the Dentist; Especially when I Need a Root Canal.

10:30am – I am sitting here in the waiting room at the dentist’s office. This tooth has needed to be fixed for nearly three years. I guess if they had fixed it a couple of years ago, I would not need a root canal today.

This is my first experience with a root canal. I have heard so many horror stories about people going in to have this procedure and being in pain for days or even weeks.

The dentist assistant said since I am having it taken care of right now instead of waiting ’til it started to hurt, the root canal should not be that bad.

12:30pm – This, I believe, has been the best experience I have ever had at the dentist (when they have had to do more than just a filling).

They put a rubber shield around the tooth they were working on so I wouldn’t get tooth particles mixed in with the saliva building up in my mouth. They gave me a guard that held my mouth open so my jaw would not get tired. The nurse was also generous enough to clean out my mouth every so often so I didn’t choke.

The dentist did a really good job at making sure I was numb. After he got into the tooth and I started to feel the nerve, he stopped and shot novicane directly into the nerve to make it numb. That was the only time that the root canal hurt was when he stuck me that second time. The first shot was numb from the numbing gel, so I barely felt that one.

7:30pm – The numb lip was gone by about 1:30 this afternoon. I was able to eat a late lunch. The tooth and jaw didn’t really get sore ’til I got to work later this evening. Even that soreness was pretty light. I think this whole experience was ten times better than the last time I went to the dentist to get a filling.

I am Starting My Seeds Indoors This Year: Spinach, Broccoli and Apple Trees

My Gardening Adventure for 2009 has begun. This year I am going to start my plants indoors. Take a look at the following video to see all the supplies I have compiled over the past three years.

Since it is the beginning of February, I figured I should start some of the cold tolerant vegetables. This year I wanted to try some broccoli. I also planted some spinach that I thought I would leave on the windowsill over the course of the summer. I also planted a few apples.

I am using Scotts Potting Soil to get things started this year. When I transfer everything to bigger containers, I will have to see what soil is on sale. I will let you know what I buy when I know.

When I popped out the drainage holes on the bottom of the container, it cracked all the way across. I should have use a utility knife to pop the first one out. That is what I used on the second one. I am still going to use this pot this year. I don’ think it is going to give me any problems.

I filled the container with potting soil and pushed holes into the soil with my finger. In each, I planted seeds. I planted six spinach plants, four apples trees and four broccoli plants.

I placed the whole thing on the windowsill and poured two small juice glasses of water on top. We will see what comes up.

How to Grow an Apple Tree from a Seed

February 11, 2009 4 comments

Step One: (February 11, 2009) Plant your seeds in a pot or, in my case, a windowsill box. I am doing this because I want to make sure they have a strong beginning before winter gets here again in December.

Gather your Pot, Soil and seeds.

Fill your pot with soil. Poke holes into the soil and drop in one seed for each plant you are trying to grow. Plant more than you expect to put into pots. If they all come up, you will pick the strongest plants to move into separate pots or into the ground.

Place your planting box on your window sill and water with a couple of glasses of water. Make sure you water the plants every couple of days or so. You don’t want the soil to dry out, but you dont want the water sitting in the drainage tray.

Still Waiting. March 27, 2009 – It has been nearly 2 months. I know that tree seeds take a while to germinate, i just don’t know if these are going grow or not. If they don’t I will try again. Please come back and check often.

May 18, 2009 – The seeds I planted never germinated. One of the comments I got said to put them in a wet papertowel and stick them in the fridge. I think I am going to try that next.
