How Did President Barak Obama Win the Nobel Peace Prize?

I really don’t understand. He has not done anything extraordinary to deserve the Nobel Peace Prize. He is the first president in a long time who has spent a major amount of time in the limelight. He has made sure everyone sees him. He is making himself public. That is about it. What he has been fighting for has not been all that different from any other president in recent years.

The only thing he has been fighting for with any true strength is the American Healthcare Reform. This is not something to speak about either because it just keeps going around and around and around in our legeslative government. Nothing is really getting resolved and by the time it does, there will be so many loopholes and exceptions that it won’t help anyone anyway.

I don’t know. I think there are other people out in the world who are doing so much more to bring peace to our world. Our President has not been doing it long enough to be a canadate for the prize.

Is Jimmy Carter's Comment About Racism Towards the President Correct?

September 16, 2009 1 comment

There has been a lot of debate over Barak Obama and how racism is affecting a lot of what he is trying to do in our country today. Jimmy Carter said Obama is being unfairly criticized because of the color of his skin. I have been wondering… is this true?

I will admit, there is still a strong separation between races in America, especially in the southeast. I am lucky. I live near a large city, where racism has nearly dissipated to that of vapor. You still see something every once in a while, but for the most part, people accept others as people and not a skin color. I do think there is a group of people in America who are going to oppose anything Obama supports just because he is black. It is a sad thing, but it is to be expected. He is the first black president in this country’s history, and it is going to take time for ALL the people to accept the fact that we no longer look at skin color to determine the leaders of our country.

I don’t think the majority of the opposition against Obama is because of race. I think people are very opinionated when it comes to taxes and how the government controls the people. If the government infiltrates healthcare, is it really going to help anything? I don’t know that it will. I like the idea of people who cannot afford healthcare being able to get some sort of help when they get sick. If the government makes it cheaper for the population to have the government healthcare, then the majority will take the government option and put the rest of the insurance industry out of business. This means more people out of work.

There is so much to say on this subject. As for me, I’m not sure how I feel about the government option for healthcare. I think there definitely needs to be caution taken when creating the bill. Lets think about the right way to handle a government plan and do it right. Lets not just jump into it.

The President had a Beer with Citizens on the Lawn of the Whitehouse… A Beer Summit… How Cool is That?!

I couldn’t believe it when I heard that the president was trying to settle a major conflict between Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates Jr. and Sgt. James Crowley on the lawn of his presidential home; a conflict that should never have been major. It is awesome. I have never heard of a president going out of his way to settle the problems of the citizens personally. Usually it is done through legislation or the court system or something other than getting personally involved.

This is one of the things that I really like about President Obama. He gets in there and spends time with the people he leads. The other big thing is he drinks in public. He has a beer socially. I can’t remember any other president ever doing that. Right after he was elected, he was observed going to a basketball game and drinking a beer. He is real. He is American. I just have to say I am impressed.

Do You Think Former Vice President Dick Cheney Should be Prosecuted for Spying on American’s Phone Calls?

Apparently the CIA created a program after 9/11 to spy on Americans who were suspected terrorists. This included tapping phone lines and cell phones, as well as watching emails and internet chats. At first we thought this was a small program to keep an eye on people we thought were a danger to our National Security. Now the News sources are telling us it was a larger program than we originally thought.

The news sources say they were not given the specifics of what the program did or who it spied on. All they knew was it was kept a secret from congress. This little bit of information makes me create all kinds of conspiracy theories.

  1. Maybe the Bush Administration had reason to believe there were terrorist supporters within the highest levels of our government and we could not risk them finding out we were looking for them.
  2. The Bush Administration was spying on hundreds, if not millions, of Americans looking for that needle in a haystack. They knew we would not approve of their disregard for our personal freedom.

I wonder if it is good thing that the CIA had been looking for terrorists, even if they had to listen in on a few of my personal phone calls. If it keeps us as Americans safe, maybe it’s a good thing?

But then again, this may be a springboard to launch our government into more sinister operations… like watching what we buy with our credit cards or track our vehicles to see where we go everyday. Hmmmm.

I Wonder Why Sarah Palin Quit Her Job as Govenor of Alaska

I was completely surprised by the news that Sarah Palin Resigned from her seat as Governor. It makes me wonder why she did it. Ever since she ran for vice President with John McCain she has been in the lime light. Unless you lived in Alaska, you never really heard about her. Now that every little piece of dirt has been unearthed about her past and her kids, she has been in the tabloids for months, maybe even years.

Some people think that she is moving out of her office so she can come down to the southern 48 states and begin her campaign for the 2012 election for President of the United States. That is possible, but I think she is actually tired of our country tearing down her and her family. I think it is more likely she is trying to get out of the sights of the paparazzi. They are watching everything she is doing right now and is having to defend everything she is doing to our nation instead of running her own state.

How is Taking the Word 'God' Out of Everything Expanding Our Freedom as a Nation?

I was reading today on Yahoo News that a group of Atheists are trying to get a federal judge to keep presidential elect Barack Obama from saying “So Help Me God” in his inaugural oath next week. The article also states that these words were added to the oath by George Washington when he gave the oath. It was not something that was demanded to be said by the government. It is a tradition and a man of faith should have the opportunity to ask the God he believes in to help with the monumental task of leading our great nation.

I just don’t understand why these groups are so intent on taking God out of everything. I mean God was the reason we came to this nation. It doesn’t really matter what god you believe in, the freedom of religion was the primary goal of those who came here. These same atheists have been trying to get the ‘Under God’ in our pledge of allegiance removed, the “In God We Trust” removed from our currency, and a couple of years ago they succeeded in having the ten commandments removed from the courthouse. It was almost like they were taking the basics for “right and wrong” from the place that needed it the most.

People are so focused on their own beliefs, that they loose the respect for other’s beliefs. Everyone on this planet has the right to make their own decision about what is out there. Each one of us has the right to believe in God, Gia, Budda, or no God at all. In the case of the inauguration this month, Obama has the right to look to his God and ask for blessings for his Presidency. The mottos on our coinage is history brought to life. Leave it alone. As for God being in our pledges and in our judicial system, 95% of people on this planet believe in God. It may not always be the same god, but we do believe in the higher power. I think the Majority should rule on this one. The Atheists should leave it alone.

I think having God in our judicial system gives us a sense of morality. There is a higher power who is always watching. This keeps us from doing evil (for the most part). If God was not there, we would feel like we could get away with anything. This world would be in a lot worse shape than it already is. I personally think we should put Prayer back into schools. It will put kid’s minds where they are supposed to be at the beginning of every day. We could leave the prayer open for the kids to pray to their own god that way the 95% of the kids can participate. As for the 5%, they have the freedom to sit and watch the others exercise their freedom of religion.

I wonder how many buttons this is going to push. Feel free to post a comment with your thoughts. Please be nice.
